New 15 Second Clip for Natsume Yujin-Chou Movie Uploaded

Natsume’s Book of Friends Movie Key Visual

Earlier this morning, a brand new trailer for the upcoming Gekijouban Natsume Yuujin-Chou: Utsusemi ni Musubu movie was released to the internet. In the 15 second clip, Nyanko-sensei is seen splitting into three. What could this possibly mean for the overall story? Your guess is as good as mine.

The movie, which is scheduled to release in Japan on September 29th, will feature pretty much an entirely familiar cast and crew. The only real changes to either the cast or the crew is in the director role. While Takahiro Oomori is still serving as chief director, there will be a new director serving under him in the form of Hideki Ito.

That’s not what you’re here to see however so let’s get to it. Here’s the special fifteen-second clip that you came to see:

History

Based on the manga of the same name which has been running since October 2005, Natsume Yuujin-Chou (Natsume’s Book of Friends) has had six TV anime series so far. The first season aired in the summer of 2008 and has yet to reach any sort of conclusion.

Originally animated by Brain’s Base and NAS, the series has switched studios multiple times with the most recent two seasons and the movie being animated by studio Shuka. The story is described by Anime-Planet as:

Natsume is lonely; he has an ability that separates him from others: he can see and interact with spirits. Soon, however, Natsume discovers that he’s not alone: his grandmother Reiko also had the gift. But things get hectic and possibly dangerous for Natsume when he finds out that he also inherited the ‘Book of Friends’, a book that contains the names of all the spirits Reiko defeated and subjugated. He finds himself hounded by his grandmother’s underlings and, with the help of a ‘cat’ charm spirit, decides to free them from the Book’s shackles, as well as protect the book from those who seek to misuse its power…

Confession time: I’ve never actually watched Natsume’s Book of Friends before. I have a very good friend who swears by it and has spent many years trying to convince me to watch it but I’ve just never given it a chance at any point over the last decade. It’s not that I’m afraid it’ll be a particularly bad series, I just do not tend to get into the relaxing episodic series like this. So, sound off in the comments… after six TV seasons and a movie, should I be giving this one a chance? Convince me and maybe I’ll check it out.
